In response to my post titled Is Human Design Indeed a Vegetarian Design, one dear reader had referred to an article by Dr. McArdle who is an anatomist, a primatologist and more importantly a vegetarian.
In the conclusion of that article Dr. McArdle had stated, “Humans are classic examples of omnivores in all relevant anatomical traits. There is no basis in anatomy or physiology for the assumption that humans are pre-adapted to the vegetarian diet. For that reason, the best arguments in support of a meat-free diet remain ecological, ethical, and health concerns.”
In the above conclusion, I disagree with what is in Red and agree with what is in Green!
And my reason for the disagreement is simple and in mathematics it is called “proof by contradiction.”
I am sure that readers, who have followed this blog, would have sensed by now that one of the reasons why I advocate a vegetarian diet for human beings is the conviction I have that we are intended to be vegetarians. I have tried to articulate the same in God made us vegetarians, We made ourselves meat eaters.
The first part of Dr. McArdle’s conclusion that “Humans are classic examples of omnivores in all relevant anatomical traits and that there is no basis in anatomy or physiology for the assumption that humans are pre-adapted to the vegetarian diet,” is in direct conflict with my stated position.
And when I add to this one of his reasons for being vegetarian, namely health, the above statement contradicts itself.
The contradiction is obvious – If health is a reason for human beings to practice meat free diet, then it would mean that they are not meant to eat meat in the first place!
Do you tell a lion or a tiger or even a dog or cat that they should not eat meat for health reasons? Or for that matter does one advocate that cows should eat meat to be healthy? The answer is a simple NO.
And that is because they are meant to naturally eat what they do eat. So if human beings should shun meat for health reason, then the conclusion is simple – you are not meant to eat meat. That is also why I have in my post stated that I consider health to be a negative reason for being a vegetarian.
