Positive Reasons To Be A Vegetarian

So far, I have been writing about what I feel are the negative reasons for being a vegetarian. I wrote about the following negative reasons to be a vegetarian:

  1. Being a vegetarian because you love a vegetarian.
  2. Being a vegetarian because you think that being a vegetarian is more healthy,
  3. Being a vegetarian because of religious reasons, and finally
  4. Being a vegetarian because it is not right to take the life of an animal for food!

Yes, in my opinion all of these are negative, invalid, non-defendable reasons to be a vegetarian.

There are only two reasons why I am a vegetarian and I believe that these are the only two valid, positive and defendable reasons fro a vegetarian lifestyle. They are:

  1. The secondary reason – I think the design of the human animal is a vegetarian design. When an engineer designs machinery, he outlines the objective of the machinery, what would be inputs to the machinery and what are the desired outputs and based on these considerations the design is made. Similarly, when nature created life forms, there was an element of design in each of them and Human beings were intended to be vegetarians.
  2. The primary reason: The most important and in my opinion the only reason why human beings should be vegetarians is that this is the only environmentally sustainable eating lifestyle for human beings. The people world over are concerned about the worsening condition of the environment, the rise in global warming and the destruction of the ecological balance. I believe that the consumption of meat by human beings is one of the biggest threats to the environment.

I will take up these two issues in the coming posts, so keep tuned.
